God does not need to swear because it is impossible for Him to lie. When He promises to heal, forgive, uplift, transform, deliver, etc, you can be sure that He will do it. That’s why the bible says;
God is not a man, that He should lie,
nor a son of man, that He should repent.
Has He spoken, and will He not do it?
Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? Numbers 23:19 MEV
However, He swore to bless Abraham though He didn’t have to. See what the scripture says:
….. and said, “By Myself I have sworn, says the Lord, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son, I will indeed bless you and I will indeed multiply your descendants as the stars of the heavens and as the sand that is on the seashore. Your descendants will possess the gate of their enemies. Genesis 22:16-17 MEV
Why did God needed to swear to Abraham? I believe that it is because He knows us better, He knows the language that we understand better. We are so familiar with lies and dishonesty that we don’t trust each other any more. We Humans are so devious and untrustworthy. We are disloyal and dishonest and hence we need to swear to each other when we make promises. We hardly trust anyone that wouldn’t swear or put it in writing and sign the agreement. God wanted to give Abraham the assurance that he needed in human terms and hence the swearing.
Now, I conclude by saying that if God swears to bless us, We can hold Him accountable and demand whatever He has promised. Go ahead and demand from Him. Don’t demand from the church or man but from Him.
God bless you.
